From Essay Mills to AI Humanizers: Three Years of Contract Cheating Data Post-ChatGPT, with Derek Newton (The Cheat Sheet)

This presentation will detail our research, analysis, and experience maintaining the Essay Mill Database and taking action against commercial cheating through a blog/newsletter: This Isn’t Fine.

From chasing 300 sites and their traffic to estimate the total essay mill market, to helping bring attention to over 900 sites that commercialize cheating, we’ve seen a lot in the last 3 years.

From Surveillance to Support: Applying Flower and Hayes to Process Tracking Data, Joseph Thibault (Cursive Technology).

Process tracking is a neat way to “playback” student writing and provide insight to the process of writing. While some use it as an academic integrity tool and the category of “process trackers” has grown since 2023, this session will focus on the nascent research related to process data including novel research conducted on behalf of Cursive at the University of Maryland.

Valuing the process over the product is just a start, this presentation will highlight the many additional things that typing data can illuminate.
